The Penny Gospel distribution

The Penny Gospel project had a simple vision – to share the story of Jesus with thousands of people across Scotland. What started with the goal of printing 50,000 copies ended with over 750,000 copies and over 600 churches and organisations distributing a special edition of Luke’s Gospel featuring inspiring stories of sporting men and women who believe their faith is worth More Than Gold.

There is much to be thankful for. Over the last few months, thousands of copies of the Penny Gospel have been handed out across Scotland, being used as a tool to help Christians share their faith and pass on the Word of God to others.

As part of the project, we’ve gathered stories from across the country. We’ve shared just a few of these below for your encouragement:

We had a great day in Kirkcaldy when the Queen’s Baton came past our church. We opened the church and invited people in for light refreshments. A good number responded and were very appreciative. We were also able to give out Penny Gospels to those waiting in the street and the shop keepers. Out of the 500 gospels I received only a few are left.

• One young man received a copy through his door, read it all way through and was sufficiently impacted he phoned to order 25 more to give away to all his friends.

Just to say we received our Penny Gospels on Tuesday! Thank you! Burst them open and gave one to the delivery man!

• A church distributed 16,000 copies through the local newspaper and then phoned asking for 500 more as people who had received them were requesting more copies from the church.

On my 87th birthday, I received a very precious gift – a copy of the Penny Gospel. It means so much to me, for I have two great-granddaughters who are both keen athletes and train at Tranent.
Mrs Clark, Dunbar

• A 4th year high school pupil arranged with his school to give out copies to his entire year group.

Thank you for the delivery of 200 Penny Gospels. Each year Brora starts off its Gala week with local churches joining to put on a Gospel event. Lots of local people who never attend church come along. So we are really excited at being able to give everyone a Penny Gospel home with them. Over the last month we have met, praying for a move of God in our village and that people will come to know Jesus as Lord.
David and Jean, Brora

• An elderly resident of an Edinburgh care home received a copy from the local church, it arrived on a day when she was feeing particularly down and The Penny Gospel was just the message of hope she needed on that day.

Just to say we in Queensferry and Dalmeny have had a wonderful time distributing the Gospels this week. The 3 denominations worked together and there was such a buzz as distributers collected their bundles and set off to deliver them. The feedback from the distributers was all good many commenting on how wonderful it was to be working together. So from the bottom of our hearts we say a big thank you to the SBS for inspiring us to set out on this journey.
Wendy, Queensferry Parish Church

Please join us in praying for all those who have received a copy of the Penny Gospel. Give thanks for those who have been distributing the Penny Gospel and pray for rich fruitfulness in communities across Scotland.
