David Threlfall, star of the hit TV series Shameless, heads the cast of a new adaptation of The Ark on BBC1 later this month. The stellar cast, headed up by Threlfall (Tommy Cooper, Shameless, What Remains) as Noah, also stars Joanne Whalley (The Borgias, Jamaica Inn) and Nico Mirallegro (The Village).
The one-off special was written by Tony Jordan – formerly EastEnders’ scriptwriter – who penned The Nativity for the BBC.
The Ark is a retelling of the biblical story of Noah and The Ark; a story of family and faith; about one man’s belief and fixation with building the ark which will ultimately save his family and mankind.
The story jumped off the page at me from the first reading. It’s not just a family saga but the first family saga. It takes its inspiration from many faiths and speaks of values which should be shared across all cultures. It was something I immediately wanted to be part of.
The Ark will be screened on BBC1 on Monday 30 March and will subsequently be available on BBC iPlayer. More information is available on the BBC website.
