So the word of the Lord continued to increase and prevail mightily.
Acts 19:20 (ESV)
You can help someone in China receive the Bible and its life-changing message
The story of the Bible in China is an amazing one. During the 20th century Bibles were confiscated, burnt and hidden, but now the Bible has become, unofficially, the bestselling book in China. There is a great desire from the ever-growing Christian population within the country for God’s Word. The Church in China is growing faster than we can possibly imagine with thousands turning to Christ every single day yet so many do not have any Scriptures to read and reflect on for themselves.
People like Simei Tong who sets out very early on Sunday mornings from her small house in the mountains. She walks for two hours, along narrow, winding pathways and village lanes, until she gets to the home of her blind friend, Zhou Maoying. Taking hold of Zhou’s arm, she carefully guides her as they walk for another hour, including crossing a stream on stepping stones.
These new believers have one thing in common – they all long for a Bible of their own. Yet, they are facing a virtual Bible famine because the Church is growing so fast.
Many people are living on around 63p a day which is why we need your help.
Please make the Bible available to millions more people by providing Bible paper for printing
Everything is in place. The press can print almost 50 Bibles every minute. Over 70 distribution centres are ready to get Bibles out to those who wait in both the cities and the villages. It is only the cost of the paper that is missing. Every 80p we receive will mean another Bible can be printed and put into the waiting hands of a believer in China.
There is great joy when people finally hold the Scriptures they long for. People like Tang Xinnian, 46, who recently received her own Bible. She walked for two hours to get to the church for the Bible distribution.
I’ve been a Christian for 20 years and was baptised last year. My husband didn’t like me to go to church so he tore up and destroyed my Bible. That was 14 years ago and I’ve been waiting for this day ever since. I’m so very happy to get another one!
Your gift today will put God’s Word into the hands of more people like TangIn China, the miraculous cooperation between the government and the Church has resulted in permission to print a staggering 4 million Bibles this year. Please pray that this amazing relationship will continue.
The Bibles will be printed at the Amity Printing Company in Nanjing – a joint venture between the Amity Foundation and the United Bible Societies, of which we are a founding member.
This is a great opportunity to provide much needed Bibles. If God has given you the means to help, please give what you can. And send it with urgency – because there’s no way of knowing how much longer we’ll be able to print so many Bibles at such a low cost.
It is up to us.
