Every good and perfect gift is from above…
James 1:17 (NIVUK)

The best, and most precious, gift people will ever receive is to have their very own Bible.

Bible distribution in SurinamePeople like Steven, who was delighted to receive a Bible from the Suriname Bible Society.

60% of people in Suriname live below the poverty line, facing social problems related to housing, education and health. Sadly, children are the worst-affected. Many experience severe neglect and physical and sexual abuse.

Poverty means that these vulnerable children are targeted by criminals and frequently enter a life of crime at an early age.

Steven was keen not to fall into that lifestyle and to live his life according to the Scriptures. Through the Suriname Bible Society, Steven now has his own Bible, and he can experience the comfort and guidance of God’s Word.

Your Christmas gift will help us to reach more people like Steven.

A devastated street in Aleppo

In the Middle East, despite the fighting and destruction ever present around them, the Bible Society continues to work in Syria.

In fact, the Bible is in unprecedented demand. The head of the Bible Society in Syria, George Andrea, says the Bible is bringing hope and peace to Syrian Christians, but they need more Bibles to give away.

The church is playing a critical part in sharing the love of Jesus with those affected by the war. Not only is the Syrian Church looking after Christians, it is also providing no-strings-attached aid to anyone who needs it.

All around the world, people need God’s Word.

A challenging situation in Ukraine

Ukraine Scripture distributionUkraine has returned to our television screens showing the increasing tension in the area. Although there is an official ceasefire, it failed within days and people are still being killed every day.

More than 1 million people have had to flee their homes due to the conflict, and the Ukrainian Bible Society is reaching out to them with Scripture. Many have discovered the healing Word of God and now know that He cares for them in every situation.

Marina from Luhansk lives in a shelter for displaced people. She said, “Many people come to visit us and bring clothes, food and toys. But, at this difficult time, the Bible is the gift that is truly precious to us! Thank you for helping us – it is so comforting to feel we are not alone with our grief!”

In this terrible situation there is a huge hunger for God’s Word and we need your support to help meet this need.

Your Christmas gift will help here in Scotland too…

A Bibleworld Books sessionFalling literacy levels in Scotland’s schools bring new opportunities for the church to reach out to schools and communities. The Scottish Bible Society has developed an exciting new resource, Bibleworld Books, which is used in after-school clubs as a partnership between the school, the local church and the Society.

Each storybook has accompanying resources carefully written to promote literacy and learning within the guidelines of the school curriculum in Scotland.

“To hear the children read aloud of the things that God has done, the stories from the Gospels about Jesus and to help them relate the message of Scripture to their own lives has been transforming.”

Please give the best gift this year – a gift that that means more people receiving a Bible, both in Scotland and around the world.
