God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them
Hebrews 6:10 (NIV)
The following message was written and provided by Clapperton Mayuni, General Secretary of the Bible Society of Malawi.
I want to thank you, the people of Scotland, for your support over the years for our work here in Malawi. You have helped us as we distribute much-needed Bibles and we thank you for your support and faithful prayers.
God is at work in Malawi. Despite challenges such as acute poverty, God continues to speak through His Word.
The desire for God’s Word here is huge, though many cannot afford it. You have helped us before with our projects Let the Children Encounter Christ and the Family Scripture Engagement Programme. Both are very successful but we need to do more.
The excitement around these projects is great but the resources are so limited. We want to make sure that as many children and families as possible will be able to access their own Bible.
Children like Angela, a young girl, 10 years old, from the slum areas of Ndirande, east of Blantyre.
The single Bible given to Angela has brought about change, not just in her life, but in the lives of her two brothers. Angela reads the Bible stories to them at home and tells of the positive effect shown as their knowledge of the Bible increases, and they always desire to know more.
There are many more children like Angela who are still waiting and who would dearly love to have their own Bible – but we need your support to meet this need.
The children’s Bible is gold in the hands of the children. Many of them walk for almost two and a half hours just to attend a 40 minute Sunday School session.
If you could only be there you would see that the children treasure in their heart these Bibles. While on the one hand this is a beautiful story, the other side of it is not very encouraging – the Bibles are few!
And this poses a challenge during the distribution process when, due to insufficient Bibles, some children are left out and do not receive the gift of their very own Bible.
Please help us to ensure that children are not disappointed but can have the joy of reading and sharing God’s Word.
A Sunday School teacher at Zambezi Evangelical Church in Chilomoni, told us how the Bible gift has greatly motivated the children to never miss Sunday classes. And Pastor Mizinga says that, since they got the Bibles, the Sunday school is filled up every week, and there is an overwhelming demand for more Bibles.
Scotland and Malawi have shared a long friendship, famously dating back to David Livingstone. We are so glad that the Scottish Bible Society supporters are continuing that tradition of support.
