Countdown to a Christmas you will want to remember
This year, none of us know how Christmas is going to look. All we know is that for people across our country, and across the world, it won’t feel as it has done before.
We’ve put together resources to help churches and individuals reconnect with the real story behind the celebrations, and helping people see that Christmas offers hope to us all, gives us cause to celebrate even in dark times – and reminds us that with Christ, we are never alone.
Through these resources, we will give households the opportunity to display that hope through their own windows and show our communities that the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
We’ve put together a pack of ten activity cards that help families interact with the Christmas story as told in the Gospel of Luke. Through short daily readings, activities, and a specially produced 3 minute long daily podcast, households will be able to pause and reflect on what Christmas really is about.
Every card shows on the front the Christmas Window adding more and more elemnts as you go on this Advent journey together. On the back you are told which new element to draw or colour in to stick on your window. By the end they will have created a nativity scene for the neighbourhood to see and ponder on the peace and hope that Christians today know and trust, because of what happened when Christ entered into our world.
Here’s how it works:
- Order the number of Christmas Windows Packs you will need (you can also download the cards and print at home).
- Put together your Christmas Windows pack – buy some bags (paper, cotton, you choose!) and put the activity cards (order the free activity packs from us) inside, along with the items needed for the activities (provided by you). A list of suggested items can be seen below. You can also fill the bag with some extra treats!
- Deliver the Christmas Windows packs to the houses of the families taking part! Make sure to let them know if you are holding any Christmas events that they can come along to or watch online!
Alongside Christmas Windows packs, there will be a daily podcast. Join your host, Fiona Stewart, as she gets ready for a different kind of Christmas, prepares her window with you, and listens along to the daily reading. The podcast will help parents and children engage with the passage, ask big questions, and pause for a moment to consider what this first Christmas means to them now.
