Help feed China’s Bible hunger
The story of the Bible in China is an amazing one.
During the 20th century Bibles were confiscated, burnt and hidden, but now the Bible has become, unofficially, the bestselling book in China.
The Church in China is growing faster than we can possibly imagine with many people turning to Christ every single day. Yet many do not have any Scriptures to read and reflect on for themselves.
In China, the miraculous cooperation between the government and the Church has resulted in permission to print a staggering 3.5 million Bibles this year. The Bibles will be printed at the Amity Printing Company in Nanjing – a joint venture between the Amity Foundation and the United Bible Societies, of which we are a founding member. This is a great opportunity to provide much needed Bibles.
“It felt like God Himself handed it to me,” Zhou said. “This isn’t just a book — it’s God’s presence in my life.”
Zhou Jun, a young hair stylist from Xiu Shan County, once lived a life that felt hollow. A friend invited Zhou to church. Hesitant but curious, he attended, and it changed everything. Surrounded by love and hope, Zhou heard about Jesus’ sacrifice and was deeply moved. By year’s end, he gave his life to Christ. Yet something was missing — a Bible of his own.
He prayed earnestly, longing for God’s Word to guide him daily. In July, Zhou’s prayers were answered when he was gifted him a Bible. With his Bible, Zhou’s life transformed. Scripture gave him purpose, discipline, and gratitude for Jesus’ sacrifice.
“The Bible changed my life,” she says.
“It gives me hope every day.”
In rural China, 75-year-old farmer Zhao Pingxian’s life was marked by struggle and sorrow. When severe pain confined her to bed, despair took hold — until some compassionate sisters-in-Christ from her local church introduced her to the Gospel.
Through their love and care, Zhao found refuge in the church, experiencing peace and hope for the first time. Zhao received her first Bible during a Bible distribution visit. Trembling with gratitude, she turned its pages, finding strength in Scripture. Rising at 3 a.m. each day to read her Bible, she discovered renewed joy and purpose.
